Following the conclusion of high-level talks and the bilateral document signing ceremony in Ashgabat, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivered statements to the press. The leaders noted that the meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and deep trust, marking a new chapter in the history of interstate relations. This was reported by the State News Agency “Turkmenistan today”.
In his address, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan and Malaysia advocate for the creation of a fair, equal, and peaceful system in the international arena. The Head of State expressed his gratitude to the Government of Malaysia for its consistent support of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality status and international initiatives. It was announced that alongside energy, industry, agriculture, and textiles, the sides agreed to advance cooperation in high technologies, the banking and financial sector, urban development, and transport-logistics corridors along the East–West route. In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, special emphasis was placed on continuing the education of Turkmen students in Malaysia’s leading universities and expanding scientific exchanges.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in turn, highlighted Turkmenistan’s high prestige in the international arena and its pivotal role in strengthening regional relations. He highly praised the Turkmen side’s efforts to foster closer ties between the countries of the Asia-Pacific and Central Asia regions. The Prime Minister announced that a joint intergovernmental commission would be established to better coordinate relations between the two countries, and that experience would be shared in fields such as banking, information technology, data center construction, and the halal industry. He also stressed that significant attention is being paid to implementing the proposal to create a logistics center for exporting Turkmen products to the Asia-Pacific region.
At the conclusion of their statements, both parties reaffirmed that the long-standing strategic partnership with “PETRONAS” will continue to develop steadily and be enriched with new projects. The leaders of both nations expressed confidence that the bridges of friendship, rooted in shared historical, cultural, and spiritual values, will grow even stronger in the future.
